Ian
Somerhalder, went from model to actor to philanthropist. If you watched the
series “Lost” then the character “Boone” was Ian Somerhalder, if you are a
Vampire Diaries fan then you will know that “Damon” is Ian Somerhalder, but
what makes this Hollywood star different and stand out from the rest? Well the
fact that he is one of the few faces in Hollywood that is trying to make a
change is one of the reasons. His dedication to help change and save the planet
started as early as 2010 when he assisted with the clean up of the Deepwater
Horizon oil drilling disaster.
If you are interested
in taking the time and learning about Global Warming or climate change and how
it is affecting us then you can watch “Years of living dangerously”, where
numerous famous faces including Ian Somerhalder takes us on journeys showing us
how everything is getting effected by this.
Ian also supports many
humane societies for animals and one of his greatest accomplishments was to get
the Ian Somerhalder Foundation [ISF] off the ground. The ISF helps animals,
teaches the youth how they can make a difference and shows everyone how easy it
is to make a change in the world. Every small change for the good helps the
world we live in and it helps everyone realize that the changes that we make
now will assist in making the world a better place for our children and their
children and so on.
The ISF’s main goal is
to assist animals in need and to educate, empower and enlighten everyone that
if we do not make a change now, then by the time our great grandchildren get
born the planet will no longer be as great as it could be. There are so many
animals dying out there due to poaching, and if it carries on then all our grand
children will know about certain animals will be what they see and read in
books.
That
is why Ian Somerhalder has stepped in and decided that if his voice could help
make a change then he would use it.
Here is a link of his testimony at the Natural Resources Hearing on the domestic ivory ban. His point of view is
mainly directed at the Elephants of Africa which, less face it, are one of the
most poached animals at the moment for their tusks. He makes a valid point. If
there was a total ban on ivory then less people would buy it, and some of the elephants would
stand a better chance at survival.
So is this model/actor
and philanthropist making a difference in the world? Judging by his followers
on twitter, face book, instagram and G+ I would say yes he is, he is making
everyone aware of the real situation out there and he is not afraid to speak his
mind when he sees things are not right. Here is a direct quote from his twitter
account “I'm ashamed of the Louisiana officials that want to take money over
public health. Help me stop this Louisiana, lets STOP THIS More to come;)”
